He Aroka Rarauka Reo
Significant investment has been made into the revitalisation of te reo Māori since the 1970s. While improvements to the health and status of the language have been evident over this time, the available data indicates that there is still a long way to go towards sustainable growth in revitalisation and proficiency of te reo.
Commissioned by Te Mātāwai and in partnership with BERL, Tokona te Raki set out to identify and map data sources to better understand how te reo Māori is used in Te Waipounamu, and to find opportunities to further integrate it. This report aligns with the goals of Te Whare o te Reo Mauriora (the partnership between the Crown, iwi, and Māori) by helping build a clearer picture of the current state of te reo, and offering insights into where further action is needed to support its revitalisation.
